If you haul cattle/sheep on the public road, the livestock trailer that you either own or borrow should be available for inspection. Alternatively if you use a livestock haulier details of this should be provided at the time of inspection.

The inspector will look at the livestock trailer to check the following:

• A roof/cover is in place
• Non-slip flooring is fitted
• Apertures to facilitate inspection during transportation are available
• 2 tail gates are used
• A dividing gate may be required if over certain dimensions - calves (8ft 2''), sheep (10ft 2'') and Cattle (12ft 2'')
• Ventilation is adequate
• Trailer is cleansed and disinfected

A copy of the Guidelines on Road Vehicles used for Transporting Farm Animals should be available and signed and dated.
