Animal Traceability Identification Sourcing And Records

Animal Traceability

Cattle Identification

A representative number of cattle will be checked during the inspection to ensure that they are identified in accordance with current legislation. The inspector will record animal identity numbers and cross reference these with your Herd register.

Herd records can be kept in ink in the DARD Herd Register or alternatively on computer in a DARD approved package - Kingswood, Summit or Farm Qizard. If the records are kept on a spreadsheet on computer, a suitable back-up system should be in place to ensure that the records are contemporaneous.

Sheep Identification

The Flock Records should be kept in the Sheep Flock or Goat Herd Register (MS3), this is the green DARD Flock Registration Book.

If lambs are purchased, the inspector will check to see that there is a system in place to ensure that the 60-day residency period for sheep is adhered to.
