Beef Labelling Verification
The beef labelling system is European Community (EC) wide. It provides consumers with clear, reliable information about the origin of beef on sale. The scheme has been produced by UKAS with assistance from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (DARD).
The beef labelling scheme applies to you/ your business if you sell fresh/frozen beef or veal anywhere in the supply chain, for example, slaughter houses, cutting plants, cold stores, re-packaging centres, butchers shops, mobile shops, market stalls, supermarkets or farm shops. Suppliers to hotels, restaurants and other catering facilities are also included. Beef labelling scheme does not apply to those selling cooked beef e.g. hotels, restaurants, fast food outlets.
NIFCC have been carrying out Beef Labelling Verification audits since March 2009, if you would like further information on the Beef Labelling Scheme please refer to the DARD Beef Labelling Guide.
