BRC Audits Commence

In March this year, Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) Lurgan Ltd became the first company to be audited to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Food Safety by NIFCC.

In March this year, Anglo Beef Processors (ABP) Lurgan Ltd became the first company to be audited to the British Retail Consortium (BRC) Global Standard for Food Safety by NIFCC, and achieved Grade A.  The company is a beef and lamb abattoir and de-boning plant.  Accepting the certificate on behalf of ABP Lurgan, Cieran Donald (Technical Manager) commented ‘We were very impressed with the professional and efficient service provided by NIFCC.  We have been certified to the BRC standard for 12 years now and it is great to have a locally based company providing this service.’

The BRC Global Standards are a leading product safety and quality certification programme used by food companies throughout the world.

NIFCC’s BRC client list is growing steadily, with the following companies now certified: ABPLurgan, William Sprott, Fresh Food Kitchen, Gilfresh Produce, Murray & Co, ABP Newry and Hewitt Meats.

In addition to the BRC Standard, NIFCC can also offer certification to the Assured British Meat (ABM) Abattoir, Cutting and Packing Plant Standard and the Beef Labelling Verification Scheme.

Commenting on this development, Valerie McCann (NIFCC Company Secretary) said ‘We are delighted to be delivering certification to these standards to the food industry and we would like to thank ABP for leading the way for others to follow.  The introduction of these services is the final step in realising the initial vision of NIFCC which was to provide cost-effective and efficient certification schemes throughout the agri-food supply chain, from field to fork.’
