Livestock Transport Certification

Following a transport inspection, the report is reviewed by a certification officer at NIFCC to ensure that the haulier meets the required standards for the ABM Livestock Transport Scheme. If the haulier is a new applicant, they must be fully compliant with the scheme standard prior to their acceptance within the scheme.

Each haulier is informed in writing of the outcome of their inspection. If non-conformances exist, a time-scale for rectification will be set to allow the haulier sufficient time to carry out the remedial action.

In 2007, there were three non-conformances which were raised on a routine basis during inspections. These are listed below: -

  • ABM Delivery Notes were not completed for movements of livestock

  • Drivers Licences were not available at inspection for additional drivers employed

  • Contingency Plans were not in place detailing the procedure to be followed in the case of an emergency

The above three non-conformances are paper work related and this shows the high standard to which the livestock vehicles were maintained.
